How Far To Bethlehem?    

"Are we there yet?" Many a parent has heard the question asked by Caleb, a young boy traveling with his parents to Bethlehem . Along the journey he meets a young mother-to-be and tells her about his fantastic dream.    

A musical play about the time of Christ's birth will be presented by members of the First Baptist Church of Hondo, December 15 and 16. The music is performed by the Adult Choir, accompanied by Madis Keath, organist, and Della Plagens, pianist. Other church members portray characters in still scenes and in a drama entitled "The Road to Bethlehem" by Dennis and Nan Allen of Nashville, Tennessee . The dramatic portions are directed by Meaghen Chandler and Larry Goff and incorporate some of the "Living Pictures" from the Christmas seasons of 2005 and 2006.    

Characters in the play include T.J. Hargrove as the young boy, Caleb. His parents, Todd and Yvette Hargrove, play Caleb's parents. Malissa and Shannon Windrow play the part of fellow travelers. The innkeeper is played by Charles Carlson and two shepherds are played by Troy Magers and Larry Goff. Coby and Christi Twiligear portray Joseph and Mary. Soloists are Stephanie blanks and Meaghen Chandler. Randy Willis, Youth Director, and various other adults and teenage members are involved in the living pictures. John McAnelly, Music Director, said, "Many other church members are involved behind the scenes. This is another way for us to say to our community, 'God loves you!'"    

Performances are at 7 pm on Saturday, December 15, and at 6 pm on Sunday, December 16 in the auditorium of the First Baptist Church at 2400 Avenue P. "Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy this celebration of Christmas," said Ross Chandler, pastor of the church.

There is no admission and no offering will be taken.
